It's impossible to find a good Mai Tai in this town, at least in Midtown. Just like you have to go South if you want to hit the actual tropics, tiki drink makers in Manhattan make you head Downtown for a proper umbrella-garnished cocktail. Not anymore. You may know Tommy Bahama as a maker of Hawaiian shirts, but they brand also makes a number of rums, which they have started to pour at a new restaurant in Midtown. It's kind of like the Armani store a few blocks further up Fifth Avenue, there's a retail outlet where you can get the aforementioned shirts and other tropical themed goods, and then you can head upstairs for a drink (or five) and enjoy a menu of Caribbean-inspired grub.
But it's the beverages that tickle our fancy the most. A separate area for drinks is dubbed The Marlin Bar, and it will serve breezy beverages ranging from Bahama Mamas to Mai Tais (our favorite) to Mojitos, which will be made at a special bar where mixologists can muddle ingredients ranging from jalapeno to pineapple to blood orange. Yum. The joint is now open at 551 Fifth Avenue.
