There are a lot of sparkling liquors on the market these days, and you know it’s a big deal when Absolut gets into the breach. Last week they had a massive launch party for their new product, Absolut Tune – a light combo of vodka and New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc that is lit up with some bubbles. We enjoyed the new drink, and not just because Solange Knowles and Samantha Ronson were spinning at the DJ tables on the top of the Standard Hotel to celebrate the spirit’s debut.
You can taste hints of the vodka underneath, but the fruity beverage absolutely does not contain overt notes of alcohol. We enjoyed it exactly for its lightness – we were drinking it straight up from a champagne flute and it did not leave us swaying back and forth. It’s 14% ABV, making it as boozy as a glass of red wine, and it’s very mixable. The bartender at the launch party poured a little St. Germain in our glass and voila – a cocktail was born just like that.
It’s definitely a unique product and we think it could catch on among the fashionable set who don’t want to teeter too badly while balancing on their stilettos. Look for a bottle near you – they retail for $34.99.
