We’ve always loved Joe’s Pub at the Public Theater, and now the East Village institution is giving patrons another option in the drinks department. Last Week, The Library at The Public Theater launched. Described as an “Astor-era cocktail lounge,” the watering hole is sure to become a favorite for both theatergoers and neighborhood drinkers. That’s right – you don’t need a ticket to a show to come and get your tipple on here.
The cocktail list is from mixologist Tiffany Short and contains some tasty sounding drinks like the Dandy Riot, a boozy mix of Old Overholt Rye, Aperol, Angostura and Talisker. The drinks are served alongside a menu from Andrew Carmellini – there are a lot of options to share (chicken-fried chicken wings = yes, please) and a few heartier main dishes like short rib goulash with caraway sour cream.
The joint takes its name from the theater’s heritage – it was originally the Astor Library back in the day – so it’s just a coincidence that it sounds so similar to The Library Bar at the city’s Nomad Hotel, which is the other cocktail hot-spot. Check out a menu here and stop by at 425 Lafayette Street.
