Scottish craft beer maker Innis & Gunn is killing it with their limited edition releases. They just rolled out – wait for it – a small batch of brew that is Spiced-Rum-Aged. Whaaaa??? While it sounds crazy, these brewers have a secret weapon under their belt – witness the Oakerator. This is an “alternative way of oak ageing beer” and involves putting the barrel into the brew. Ok, we’re not sure exactly what that means, but it sure sounds magical (and the results are exactly that).
To make the new label, American oak is toasted and then infused with a blend of spiced rum. Then, the wood and the beer is brought together using their nifty gadget – which imparts the liquid with a perfect level of spice. The new label is now available in the US and a four-pack can be picked up for $12.99. The Spiced Rum joins other limited editions like Irish Whiskey Cask. Booze + Beer? You can see why we like them.
