We were intrigued when Sleep No More launched their new rooftop bar dubbed Gallow Green, but we'll admit that we were a little annoyed by their reservations policy. Guests had to plonk down money in advance, laying out $20 for each person in attendance. The money would be applied to the bill - so you were essentially pre-paying for drinks, but sometimes laying out $80 for a party of four just isn't doable for those of us who so artfully live paycheck to punch bowl to paycheck.
Well, the penthouse garden rolled out a food menu last week, and they quietly shifted this policy. We tried to book online and were able to snag seats without any money upfront, swell. This is great, since the spot is absolutely worth a visit. We really enjoyed ladling out some punch - a selection of bowls was on offer with recipes from Dave Wondrich. They are $50 and are easily enough for a party of four (though our two top was able to down the entire thing without getting too tipsy). During our visit there were actor wandering around the garden and interacting with patrons, and a brass band played old time tunes for the soundtrack. Reservations are still encouraged if you're visiting, you can book them here: http://mckittrickhotel.com/gallowgreen/
