There was a lot of joy last night at the new Blue Ribbon in the LES Thompson Hotel, and we suspect the positive feeling had something to do with the countless bottles of sake being poured on the patio of the property's Blue Ribbon Restaurant. The organizers of the annual Joy of Sake tasting were in the house to offer a preview of their epic event - attendees were given a little glass and set loose to pour themselves a sample from dozens of bottles. By the end of the night, the hordes stood around the sushi table, ravaging the fish as they discussed their favorite bottles (and went back for a last few precious sips).
And this was only a small sneak peek of the main event. Hundreds of sake labels will be poured at the Altman Building on Thursday, September 20. Attendees will have three hours to fill up that little glass again and again, sampling some of the finest labels that Japan has to offer. Tickets are $90, and you can get them here. Sake-friendly bites will also be offered, and if the crowds chowing down at last night's event were any indication, you should take the opportunity to nibble early and often.
