There has been a lot of news lately about the new bike share program coming to the Big Apple, but based on a recent article in the NY Times, we think the real question about this new project is: when will the bike riders be able to drink beer while they pedal? The article looks at the exciting world of beer biking, which is apparently all the rage in Amsterdam and some other European cities. Groups of 10-12 drinkers get on the contraption, and then they all have to pedal as an employee of the tour company that runs the show steers (because drinking and steering one of these things = not a good idea). The fuel is beer, which comes out of a set of taps at the center of the bike.
We think New Yorkers would go crazy over this – it would be like a party bus, but for athletes. Though, they do create some problems. Like when people get out of hand. From the article: “things can occasionally get out of hand. Like the time a middle-aged, kilt-wearing Belgian almost set his bike on fire during his bachelor party. When the police arrested the groom-to-be, everyone else ran away, leaving the tour guide stranded with the bike, which is too heavy for one person to move.”
