Just how big is the World Cup in Brazil? Well, it’s big enough to make the country very thirsty. All the soccer fans (and hooligans) will drink epic amounts of beer during the games.
Brazil usually imposes high duties on imports, to encourage a blossoming domestic brewing scene. They may dominate in soccer, but they are lagging behind in brew making. Check it out:
Brazil has slashed beer duties to avoid shortages during the World Cup, after local brewers warned they would be unable to meet surging demand despite sharply increasing production.
The government said on Wednesday it will cut import levies on canned beer to 2 percent from 16 percent for the June tournament, which Brazil will host in 2014.
