Our favorite Styles Section writer, Jonathan Miles, did an excellent job of summing up the past 10 years of cocktail craziness. What started as a decade devoted to sickly Apple Martinis and Cosmos ended as a renaissance for sophisticated drinkers. Check out this toast to the decade:
to 10 years of fizzes, slings, juleps, sours, cobblers and rickeys, to a time when the avant-garde seemed to shift almost nightly, to the best decade in generations.
There was a bombshell embedded in this piece: it’s Jonathan Miles' last column! Jonathan – you’re breaking our hearts here. How are we even going to open the Styles Section without the promise of some excellent cocktail coverage? Now it’s going to be all fashionable strollers and trend pieces about hipsters with handlebar mustaches. Horror.
Well, we’d like to offer a toast of our own. To Mr. Miles, for providing some of the classiest cocktail coverage in town for these past four years. We wish you the best.
Note to The Times: we are ready to take over the column forthwith. Call us!
