Wait a minute, people still party at the Tribeca Grand? If our visit on a recent Saturday was any indication, the answer is a resounding yes. The bar was packed with attractive hipsters. Judging by the baby faces in the crowd, they apparently don’t check IDs at the door (alas, we remember our days of underage drinking in this posh spot). A DJ worked his tables and pumped out a mix of electroclash, haven’t heard that for a while. The crowd, the music, the drinks – could this all be a throwback to 2003 (that’s a good thing)?
On our visit, The Church Lounge had all we needed. There was space to sit, room to dance, and people to talk to. Drinks were reasonable by hotel bar standards. A glass of palatable Pinot Grigio sold for $10. Did we feel a little old with all the moppy hair and pretty leggings? Well, yes. But, in the same respect, we felt right at home as we swayed to the music and sipped on our wine. We wouldn’t stay there all night, but it was a perfect spot to drop in on an evening around town.
We’re not sure if it’s worth the trip on off nights, but definitely keep your eyes peeled for a fun party and head over. The Tribeca Grand is located at 2 Avenue of the Americas, right below Canal.
