Think there are no awesome craft beer bars in East Midtown? Think again. We dropped into the Stag’s Head the other night, and boy were we surprised. This cozy little cabin of a bar sports a draft list full of American microbrews. Located in the back of the more typical sports bar Cornerstone, the Stag’s Head easily has the best beer list on this side of town.
We enjoyed a Belgian style ale by New Jersey brewer River Horse. They’ve got a great happy hour until 7 PM that features price breaks on a lot of the drafts. They’ve also got a chill crowd that seems to appreciate a beer nirvana when they see one.
Do we smell a potential rivalry between The Stag’s Head and West Side beer heaven The Pony Bar. They’ve both got their namesake animal, they both have awesome domestic beer lists. What sets Pony Bar apart? Well, they seem to have scored all the press.
This is one rivalry that we’ll encourage, if only because it will give us an excuse to drink lots of spectacular brew. If they don’t bite on the contest, then we suppose they can happily co-exist. As we all know, good beer is a necessity, no matter what side of the town you’re from.
The Stag’s Head is located at 252 East 51st Street.
