Uh-oh. Looks like a liquor store in Detroit got caught with their hands in the cookie jar. This one is especially bad since the cookies in the jar were purchased with food stamps.
The feds busted workers at Jefferson’s Liquor Palace for running a scheme involving government money. Patrons would get cash back for swiping their food stamp card for more than they bought. The government would reimburse the store at a higher rate, and the patrons would spend their pocket change on the true staples in life. Check it out:
And in some transactions, the government says the store provided informants Viagra, liquor and porn in exchange for swiping about $2,000 off food stamp cards. The government says fraud at the store topped $130,000 over 2 1/2 years. The store is closed.
What’s wrong with you Jefferson’s – this gives liquor, porn, and Viagra stores everywhere a bad name!
