Last week, during Fashion’s Night Out, we decided to have derelict’s night in. We figured we should be in proximity to all the glittering fashion people, if only to swipe at them in the attempt to steal their fancy garments and sell them for hooch. We donned our burlap sac (which one black clad Skeletor told us was ‘the delightful apex of haute couture’) and found a perch at the Westside Tavern, off 9th Avenue in Chelsea.
What’s special about this place? Nothing, but that’s just the point. In quickly gentrifying Chelsea, its one of the last low key options available. Westside Tavern is just a bar, and that’s why we love it. It’s much like the fashion people and their “it’s just a little black dress, don’t you adore it?”
The Tavern is good for pretty much any occasion: fashion parties, lunch, your son’s baptism (leave the baby with the woman), and drinking for no reason. It may not be fashionable, but it’s cool as hell. Hurry and have a drink there before the fashion people co-opt it because it’s a “genuine ready to wear environment.”
Westside Tavern is located at 360 West 23rd Street.
