The other night, we camped out in the shadow of the United Nations at Beekman Bar and Books. Our little international summit consisted of a meeting with a very important Scottish dignitary: the brand ambassador for Glenmorangie. The setting was appropriate for such a crucial conversation. Beekman comes equipped with some plush leather seating and hefty books line the walls. Not that we would be reading any. We were too focused on the little tasting trays that made their way about the room.
We were a fan of the distiller’s Signet label. This mix includes single estate barley and a high roast “chocolate” malt. It was smooth, smooth, smooth (new rule – if we say a word three times, that means start drinking). Sadly, Beekman’s back smoking room was closed. Rumor has it that the bar lost their smoking license. A round of stogies would have been perfect to pair with the single malt. They certainly would have helped along the diplomatic negotiations (issue in question: should we have another drink?).
We decided the life of a diplomat is surely for us. Our first mission? Improve the output of the neighboring UN. They don’t seem to be making any inroads with world peace. Maybe all of them should sip on a dram of Glenmorangie before their next meeting. They’d all be holding hands and singing in no time.
