This weekend, the Times took a look at the perils of being a reality show contestant, which some of the folks from the shows liken to being in jail. Funny, we didn’t think there was so much alcohol available when you’re behind bars. The article infers that the producers of these shows make sure the hooch is flowing to increase the drama. We liked this bit about an episode of The Bachelor:
During the 2006 season of the popular ABC dating show “The Bachelor,” the contestants waited in vans for several hours while the crew set up for a 12-hour “arrival” party where, two contestants said, there was little food but bottomless glasses of wine. When producers judged the proceedings too boring, they sent out a production assistant with a tray of shots.
“If you combine no sleep with alcohol and no food, emotions are going to run high and people are going to be acting crazy,” said Erica Rose, a contestant that year.
Later in the article, the producers point out that no one is forced to drink on these shows. They just do, probably because they are borderline-personality disorder reality show contestants.
What’s your favorite drunken moment from Reality TV? We like the pre judging panel drink sessions on Top Chef. It’s impressive that the contestants are able to stand in that straight line while facing the judge’s table.
