Some people dream of silly things, like becoming president. We aim a little higher. Our life’s ambition? To have a drink named after us. If we move to Soho, we might just have a shot of achieving our lofty goal. L’Ecole, the restaurant that’s affiliated with The French Culinary Institute, just started a program called Cocktail for Soho Friends. They plan to add a drink to their list that’s inspired by a creative individual who’s worked and lived in Soho.
The first cocktail was determined at an August 4th kick off event. Guests voted for one of two signature cocktails created by The FCI’s Nils Norén and David Arnold in an local's honor: Drink A made with Aquavit and Grapefruit Juice and Drink B, a tequila and cassis mix. The winner would be put on the menu to honor Donald Judd, a famed minimalist who advocated for permanent installations in carefully selected environments (if you want to know more about the fellow, check out the Judd Foundation’s website).
The tequila and cassis drink took the day, and you can stop by L’Ecole in the next few weeks to try it yourself. The drink costs $12, and the photo shows Nils Noren dishing one up.
Hmm, we wonder how we can successfully lobby for a drink made in our honor. Maybe we should start making some minimalist sculptures on our fire escape. Geography is going to be a key issue. First step, we’re off to lobby the city to change the boundaries of Soho to include Hell’s Kitchen. Gotta start somewhere.
L’Ecole is located at 462 Broadway.
