When we first heard about the launch of a bubble gum flavored vodka, we said “bubble . . . .ummmm. ..” After we got over how deliciously wry we are, we headed out to Green House to try some of the stuff. The party was ostensibly hosted by Kim Kardashian, but we didn't see her. The club was packed, and we were too busy being elbowed aside to get a glimpse of what our guest so artfully referred to as “bubblicious booty”.
After finding a less populated nook downstairs, we were ready to take our chances with the vodka (which you could smell down the block from the club, we’re sure the folks at City Winery across the street were thrilled). There were some Bubble-tinis being mixed, but we opted for a Bubble and Soda, mainly because the bar was crowded and that was what the bartenders were dishing out.
And, what did it taste like? Well, bubble gum. But, not the overpowering sweet-tart-ness of Bubblicious. It was more like the subtle, nostalgic flavor of Bazooka (sadly, the cocktails did not come with little cartoons). We are usually opposed to sweet vodka mixes, but think that the Three-Olives could pop up in some interesting dessert cocktails throughout the city. There’s nothing else like it on the market, and we doubt Absolut is rushing to roll out Absolut Orbit. The spirit is different, and they really didn’t overdo it.
Speaking of overdoing it (ahem) – we’re still not sure what the best cure is for a Bubble hangover. We heard that you’re supposed to use peanut butter to get it out of your hair, but, after eating half a tub of JIF, our head still hurt.
