We decided to stick with the 2 for 1 theme this week. On Tuesday we headed to Blue Ruin, a new dive nestled behind Port Authority. Today, it’s over to the East Village for a trip to a long-cherished shit hole: The Library. Located on Avenue A between 1st and 2nd, Library runs a 2 for 1 happy hour each night until 8 PM.
Yes, the deal applies to everything. Don’t try to order wine though. On a recent visit, our guest asked for a glass of red, and she was nearly laughed out of the bar by the band of hobos and daytime drunks that call this place home.
The bar’s name ostensibly comes from the bookshelves randomly stapled to the wall. Judging by the happy hour clientele, there are a lot of self help titles in their catalog. Like how to get as drunk as possible on cheap vodka, how to stumble home when its still light out, and how to find enough pennies in your couch so you can come back the next day for more.
A how to book the bar doesn’t have? How to clean the 12 year old dust off the fake books decorating your shifty dive bar. Yuck.
