Last week played host to tea parties because people are unhappy with giving their hard earned money to the government. Tea? Come on people. You should have been throwing beer kegs, especially in New York. The state’s alcohol tax is scheduled to go up on May 1st. From Eric Asimov of The Times:
Not surprisingly, a new tax rate will go into effect on May 1 for wine and beer. The excise tax on beer sold or made in New York rises to 14 cents per gallon from 11 cents, while the tax on wine sold or made in New York goes to 30 cents a gallon from 18.9 cents a gallon.
Asimov claims that the increase should have minimal impact on your drinking money, as it will only add a few cents to each six pack or bottle of wine. We’re not so sure, way too many bars have been inching up draft beer to the precarious $7 level (yes Valhalla, we mean you!). We can see a few shifty locations using the new tax as an excuse to broach the unspeakable $7.50 line.
Where is the conservative television outrage about this? Does Glenn Beck not like to swill cheap beer like the rest of us? At least we can understand why O’Reilly isn’t upset. If it was pills, maybe. . .
uggghh why are they doing this to me

Oh, conservatives such as myself are very outraged over any kind of major alcohol tax. Although swilling cheap beer isn't my style (craft and Belgian beers are more like it), it's the principle that's important.
And the jabs at Beck and O'Reilly? Really? When those two rail against major tax increases, they are railing against major tax increases on almost EVERYTHING, which probably INCLUDES taxes on alcohol (unless they explicitly state otherwise). But, I won't begrudge the New York-bubble (w/ the exception of Staten Island) bias. We here in L.A. have to deal with the Santa Monica/Westside-bubble bias all the time. Pills though? Seriously?
