Barfly’s Christmas list this year is basic:
1) A martini
2) A second martini
3) A helmet to keep us from getting a concussion when we crash to the floor after we have martinis 3, 4 and 5. Don't judge us, it's not our fault that there are twelve days of Christmas.
Thankfully, this year all of you fabulous readers can now send us martinis online. “How? “ you ask. Well, thanks to some Facebook funding (amongst other investors) Give Real has just been launched; a means for purchasing your friends alcohol via the Internet (there are also non-alcoholic options for all of the boring people in your life). ‘Credits’ for drinks can be purchased through givereal.com or through their Facebook application. We are so excited to be able to receive real drinks on Facebook now. We always felt that receiving icons of beers and shots was like getting the virtual finger. What are we to do with a cartoon picture of a vodka tonic other than just paw at the screen? Horror.
How Give Real works:
(1) Log on to GiveReal.com or visit the Real Drinks Facebook Application, and purchase up to $99 worth of drink credits (our equivalent to 8 ¼ martinis and/or 33 well drinks during happy hour).
(2) Your friend accepts the gift by logging on to www.givereal.com and securely registering his or her credit or debit card so their account can be credited when they get their drinks.
(3) The gift recipient then heads to a bar, restaurant, club, or café anywhere in the United States and enjoys their drink. You can redeem credits at any establishment that accepts credit cards. We were so elated to find that we can redeem our gift at the nearby, shady after hours bar after we’d already smashed the helmet and our friends had abandoned us in the wee morning hours.
(4) As soon as the transaction posts, the recipient's account is credited for the amount of the gift.
Readers - we are always more than happy to be accompanied to our favorite watering holes - but now we don’t even need to bother with face time for you to buy us a drink. A tip: A gin martini at our favorite hotel bar costs $12. Good riddance to receiving those cartoon teases!
