It’s been a while since Barfly trotted off to school – the thought of hitching that belt buckle around our books and walking 10 miles through the snow feels a bit tiresome these days (especially since we never actually did that – thanks to our personal chauffeur and homework finisher Raoul). We were pleased to find a series of classes that make us excited about this “learning” nonsense again (not to mention that it saves us the trouble of having to hide our flask from the principal – he was quite the temperance toad). Midtown restaurant Brasserie Cognac has announced a Cognac School. Classes begin October 18th.
The series of 4 weekly classes (lasting 1.5 hours each) seeks to “demystify” the saucy spirit. They cover cognac basics, lesser known vintages, and cooking with the sauce (can you say five-alarm-flambé?). We’re excited – and think that we can get an A on the tasting portion of the program. We’re not so sure how we will do on the cooking section – we are shooting for a B-. We’re quite sure that the fire that we tipsily start won’t actually burn down the entire restaurant (hence earning us an ‘incomplete’).
The classes cost $60 a head – and you can find out more about the restaurant on their website. In the meantime – Barfly is going back to our old school motto of “be prepared”. We’ve sent Raoul off to the liquor store and plan to get some hard core studying done as soon as he returns!
