On a recent summer evening, Barfly was engaged in what we can only call our “warm weather hobby” - trying to spin that gigantic black cube sculpture down on Astor place. We decided to throw in the towel for the day and were suddenly hit with a color craving. It could have been the recent spate purple drinks that we’ve enjoyed. Maybe it was the desolate blackness of the cube. It probably was the colorless comments that issued from the local teens watching us trying to rotate said sculpture.
”Like, cha, that thing ain’t gonna move, ya freak”. Indeed teenage skater – we wouldn’t be watching you and snickering while you practiced your hobbies – playing Wii, watching Gossip girl, taking the SAT’s – don’t be so sure who the “freak” is on that small traffic island.
Luckily, there was a bevy of colors right down the block. We jaunted down to Colors restaurant, and cozied up to the bar for a martini.
Colors is garnished with a bit of a sad story. It was opened by surviving members from Windows on the World. Barfly is not good with emotion ladies and gentlemen (except modesty). The history is the history, and time marches on. Colors is the perfect spot to do what Barfly does best when “emotions” become involved: go into denial and browse the menu.
Colors did a fine job of bringing out what we are good at: eating diverse foods from around the world, being well lit, and ordering another perfectly chilled martini. By the end of the meal, we wondered if that should be our hobby. Though it sounded like a good idea, we couldn’t bear to have our hobby label us a lush. We decided to pay the check, and march back to the cube – right after our next martini.
Review: Colors Restaurant – 417 Lafayette Street
Location next to Joe’s Pub – 4 olives – It’s a welcome alternative for dinner in the neighborhood. Joe’s is a nice space, but its so exhausting to order appetizers and pretend to like jazz all at the same time.
Getting to Taste food from 6 different continents – 4.5 olives – We wish they would have put forth that teeny bit of extra effort and rounded it out at 7. There’s no excuse, as we are fairly certain baby penguin is in season.
Goddess Shrimp – 4 olives – Anyone with the audacity to name something “goddess” has to live up to the moniker, and the Colors dish manages to impress. The presentation was a bit off – we thought it would be much more Top Chef worthy if the shrimp were wrapped in mini Toga’s.
Cube-Spinning – 2 olives – We really should give this up for another warm weather hobby. Between the teenager’s idiotic mouth (LOL is not a word, good sir) and the fact that we can’t spin it by ourselves, it may be time to move on to something more ‘accessible’. Maybe fire hydrant uncapping or air-conditioned apartment breaking-into. It’s so hard to fill summer’s lazy days.

So wonderful posts, like all them.I think you are a happy one.don't stop writing so good post.hope you will get more and more celebrites from other people.thanks for your thoughts about something.
